What color highlights for dark brown/black hair?

I don't want to get just blonde because everyone gets blonde...

I was thinking just red, but it looks a little goth/emo.

Do you think red and blonde streaks would look okay? Or ... ?

Or I was also thinking to just dye my hair a little lighter brown, so when my hair grows out, you can see the darker roots.

Do you think that would look okay?

nonon don't go with red. I agree with everyone else.. get blond. Or if you really want something like red.. get strawberry blond, or auburn, it's sort of like orangy-brown.

i just got more black in it, but yes i think it would look good with a lighter brown. and get like layers to add texture. hope this helps =]

I have naturally dark brown-black hair, and I used to put red highlights in it. It didn't look emo at all, it was very flattering. The only way it will look emo is if you go for a neon red, like from Manic Panic. Go for natural red shades like auburn highlights. Totally worth it, and it makes you look more unique than everyone else getting blond in their hair.
